I have natural and have very kinky, curly hair as well. I am so familiar with this problem. Before I give you any advice about products and such I have to tell you that it takes a while for the hair to be trained and once your hair is trained then it really doesn't matter what kind of products you use. In my opinion shampoo and conditioner is not such a big deal. I use Tresemme shampoo and conditoner,it is the best. I always use a leave in conditioner, as well as a heat protector spray by Tresemme. Also, rinse with tepid water, actually as cool as you can take it, it makes the hair shine. After that I use the leave in conditioner and the heat protector spray. I try to let my hair air dry as much as possible to illiminate the amount of heat. So, then I blow dry! This is when the Super Skinny Serum comes in to play, then I use a light oil, like Hot Six. Its a liquid, this helps to lubricate the hair so that it doesn't singe while flat ironing. Now, use a small amount of oil but for the first day it will seem a little heavy but not super heavy, you will still have major body. Always remember to wrap your hair at night with a soft/slick material so that it doesn't pull or split. One last thing, alot of people spend mucho bucks on expensive flat irons but I kid you not, I paid 15 bucks for my flat iron and it is the best one I have ever owned. I wouldn't make it without my flat iron. It is Andis and I purchased from Walmart. When I confused in any problem about hair & its groth problem I concerned this site:

thinning scissors chop in some places along the blade, this makes them make your hair thinner which may stop you from getting hot and make you hair look and feel less bushy
References :
Why not visit your local hairdressers and get some expert advise. I suppose the clue is in the name 'thinning', it makes your hair look thin and I doubt it makes it look really layered. Hope this helps!
References :
If done right there will be nothing noticeable. Thinning shears are made to reduce bulk. But if used in one place too much or too close to the scalp, you will get little hairs poking out, that look like fly aways. So make sure you have your hair thinned the correct way.
References :
Cosmetology Student

Thinning Shears are just that. They thin your hair out. You can't cut your hair with them, as they are used to thin your hair out. When you thin your hair out, It shouldn't be noticeable. Your only taking the bulk out, Not the length. Shears, and Thinning shears look completely different. Thinning shears have ridges on one side, and Cutting shears has a smooth blade.
References :
i have really thick and wavy hair and thinning scissors are my favorite part of a salon visit. It doesn't make my hair any more wavy nor does it make it look any different. They are just designed to thin out and make hair lighter and less likely to get tangled. I love them! The difference isn't HUGE though.
References :
hi sallys the hairdressing and beauty industry shop is only letting people buy stuff in there now if only your in that trade which is a shame as theres some really nice thinning scissors in there at a good offer if she has identification in the trade maybe you could go in there with her and pay for the ones she chooses i bought some nice jaguar ones in there a couple of weeks ago scissors are quite expensive by the way realise that youd be paying more than 60 and they add tax on at the end
i really like jaguar but its her personal prefence i would not buy them online for her as she might not like them theres different blade lengths as well which blade length does she prefer to use 5, 5.5? go with her to look round if you want to buy them :) but youll need to go to a hairdressing trade like sallys, aston and fincher etc or if she sees any online
References :
My experience with thinning scissors - I would request barbers not to use them because I had thin light hair anyways and I didn't want it thinned/was trying to get the same length of hair.

They would usually forget and use them anyways if I wasn't facing the mirror to stop them.

I hated those scissors. Now Gillette provides all my hair care products.
