I bought a shaver a t the pet store and tried it out, but it doesn’t really get through all the thickness. I thought that’s just how hard it was going to be but the other night I watching one of those animal cops show and they had a ton of neglected super furry dogs and they were shaving them like shearing sheep! I have a medium size dog and it took me a good chunk of the day.

Those people have tons of experience shaving dogs. Just like anything else, you get better with practice. They also edit the show so what looks like 2 minutes of shaving could very well be hours with most of it edited out. You might get a groomer to do it the first time and watch and learn.

the shavers that are use by pros are the best and very expensive so they look like a hot knife going through butter. a good shaver can be up to 3 or 4 hundred dollars and have all the right blades and combs to shear through all kinds of fur along with the groomers experience. when i started grooming my poodle i use to watch the cuts and tecniques until i tryed it on my own and i also got books on the styles. i find that if u use scissors and trim the longest parts off and just shave around the face,legs,paws and private parts the dog seems more content but watch out for razor burns since the blades on cheaper razors get pretty hot. try to cut with the way the fur grows and brush it up so u will get all the underneath growth up. as u get use to the razor and scissors u will become a great groomer in no time. good luck

Keep the blade flat with the skin and start behind the head and work your way down. Make sure you touch the blade to your wrist to see how hot it is you don't want to burn your dog get a can of kool lube spray to keep the blabe cool. It will take you longer cause your not a groomer,but with time you will get it. And the amount you paid for the clippers if they were cheap then you are wasting your time get good clippers like oster or andis about 100.00 and the blades a #10 well take it short but have at least 2 blades and keep checking so you don't burn the dog. good luck it isn't as easy as it looks if you don't know what your doing.
