I have fine hair – and it has a tendency to curl in the front, especially the bangs. I'm sick of trying to straighten it where it isn't all rolled up and curled in the front. I usually have a #2 clipper on the side, then scissors cut on top with the bangs longer (halfway down my forehead) with the sides and top blended in.

I am sick of the bang thing. It's too much hassle and no matter how hard I try they won't stay straight down after a while (I'm in a humid area). Would it be reasonable to keep the #2 on the side and have maybe a #5 on the top? Is that possible? I don't know what else to do since I have odd hair. Sick of fooling with it.

The last time I had a buzz looking hair cut I was 10 (I'm 17 now) and it looked sort of…weird. I'm thinking with age it maybe wouldn't look so strange?

Thanks.

An ivy league or crew cut can be designed to complement most possible combinations of male head shape, face shape, facial features and hair type by a skilled barber:

[His hair at the front is about 1.5" graduated in length shorter across the top to about 5/8" at the back of the crown. The back and sides are tapered shorter. Due to the graduation in length of the top hair, an ivy league or crew cut re easier to groom than a brush cut or long butch haircut where the hair on top is cut to all one length and layers on to itself. The hair at the front of an ivy or crew is very lightly waxed and brushed back off the forehead to form the short pompadour front. A little wave actually adds to the look. Read this answer and open the links therein and you will have a fairly decent understanding of the basic short styles:

Feel free to e mail if you have any more questions. Ask around for a barber that is good with the short cuts and be sure to take a photo to describe the type of ivy league or crew cut you want and don't rely on the haircut terms alone because they mean different things to different barbers.
Good Luck!
